Kalyn Monroe
Parents
Both born in Renington, Thomas ‘Tommy’ Monroe and Samantha Banks attended Rennington Highschool. Neither was popular, and each hung out with different crowds. Tommy was a member of the Glee club while Samantha focused on academics and business.
Tommy, who was very carefree, took a liking to the “overly brainy” Samantha. He was attracted to her intellect and she found his energy intoxicating. They soon began dating, attending prom, and graduating. However, after high school, the two parted ways. Samantha attended Renington University for Business and Tommy moved to Hartphort, where he attended HP Tech, where he studied computer engineering.
After finishing college, Tommy began his long-planned trip to travel the world. Most of the world was unknown, and despite the age of some towns, travel between them was long and difficult. He made his way, mapping out a proper route and making sure he could form a travel path for people to follow.
His journey ended him back in Renington, where he met Samantha, who was managing a high-class restaurant. She explained how she was looking to buy the place, and rebrand it. She was fascinated by his tales of travel, and the two sparked their relationship again.
As they both continued their dreams, they kept in touch, writing letters to one another. The relationship proved difficult, but they made the best of it. Eventually, when they were in their later 20’s, Tommy and Samantha finally settled down and were married.
Early Childhood
Two years after Tommy and Samantha were married, Samantha gave birth to Kalyn. Even as an infant, she proved to be a handful. She began crawling at seven months, and walking at nine. She was fast and adventurous. At age four, she had ventured beyond her yard, climbing a tree in the backyard and leaping out and over the fence.
Kalyn was more than a handful for Samantha. She tried to be strict, but caring, enforcing lady-like behavior onto her daughter. Tommy, however, took a different approach. He saw himself in his little girl and began to teach her all he had learned from his travels. He told her stories of his adventures, and she soaked up all of them. She began to play pretend, where she too was traveling around the world.
By age nine, Kalyn had learned how to start a fire, make a weapon, climb small mountains, and survive with nothing. She had learned how to read a map, and how to navigate the terrain. Tommy continued taking notes in his many journals as he taught her as well, recalling times when he traveled the world. And it inspired him to do something more.
Family Legacy
Tommy took his knowledge, and his expertise in computer technology, and sold his plans to contractors, and building management companies. With these ideas, they were able to construct a travel system for all people to use to move easily around the world. Taking note of Tommy’s easy travel paths, they built a tram system that would take people to destinations in a matter of hours. These new high-speed trams revolutionized the tourist industry and created a massive increase in commerce.
By the time Kalyn was three, the tram system was the primary means of travel for all of Koringa and inspired the smaller trams utilized in many towns around the world. Years later, these systems were used to implement coordinates and locations into a World wide GPS, mapping out the correct path and distance, and being readable on any part of the world, land or sea.
Samantha was also experiencing an increase in fame. After purchasing the restaurant from her former boss, she rebranded the restaurant and named it Monroe’s. It soon became a high-traffic restaurant, and she soon expanded to other cities, such as Harthport, Shaford, and Turner.
Loss of a Role Model
Kalyn continued soaking in as much as she could from her father. By age thirteen, Kalyn was near as proficient as her father in the knowledge of survival and travel. As the summer break came closer, Tommy was planning a new route around the continent to rework the GPS and update the loadout. He also planned on having Kalyn accompany him. However, these plans would never be put into motion.
When returning from school one afternoon, Kalyn discovered her father on the bathroom floor, unresponsive and not breathing. With no signs of attack, Kalyn called emergency units, who arrived swiftly. However, when they reached Tommy, he was declared D.O.A.
Tommy had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage while preparing for his day, passing away early in the morning, after Kalyn had left for school and Samantha had left for work. He laid there until Kalyn discovered him later that afternoon.
Devastated by the loss of her father, Kalyn sunk into a deep depression, being inconsolable and unruly, wanting nothing more than for her father to return. Her grades began slipping, and she became distant from Samantha.
For two years, Kalyn and Samantha struggled to maintain a steady relationship. Kalyn did eventually begin speaking to her, but they had never been on the same terms as each other. Kalyn took more after Tommy, and never wore the approved lady attire Samantha wanted her to.
Many times, when it was late, Kalyn would pull out her GPS, and pretend a part of her father was still with her, longing for the trip they were planning, but never were able to take.
The Creator’s Temple
Now age fifteen, Kalyn was forced to travel with her mother to a small island south of Renington called Kenwood Island. She was opening a new restaurant on one of the island’s tourist towns. She was very reluctant and did not want to travel with her mother for work.
The prospect of a beach did little to alleviate the feelings of dread she experienced while sailing on the ferry to the town. It was five days of meetings while she sat silently in the corner with little to nothing to do.
It wasn’t until the trip back to Renington that her life would take a different path than she had planned. While wandering the ship, she bumped into a strange boy, carrying an even stranger-looking sword. After brushing off the incident, she made her way to the dining hall for some food. After eating, she went back outside to get fresh air, only to bump into the same boy again.
This meeting, however, was cut short when the ship was attacked by a gang of Minotaur. After a series of terrifying moments, Kalyn discovered her mother was injured in the attack. After getting patched up, Kalyn took her mom to the J.P.P Hotel where a colleague of theirs was waiting.
Making a trip to the diner down the street to pick up her mother’s lunch order, she once again met the boy from the ship. And after a conversation, agreed to join them on their journey. She made her way back to her mother, to tell her of her new plan.
Samantha was, no surprise, upset and refused to allow her daughter to travel with two strangers. It wasn’t until Kalyn mentioned the lost trip she was supposed to go on with Tommy. It was then that Samantha saw her high school sweetheart in the eyes of her daughter, agreeing to allow her to make the trip she had promised. Samantha also gave Kalyn Tommy’s last journal, hoping for her daughter to pick up where her husband had left off. Kalyn then ventured off, in search of the Creator’s Temple with two people who would fill the void left by her father’s loss.
Life after the Temple
After finding the Creator’s temple and traveling home, Kalyn finished high school with a new appreciation for the world. She was able to exceed her class and graduate a year early. Now seventeen, she is moving to Harthport to attend the same school as her father had. She also found out that her former traveling partner, Harper Godwin, is also attending school there. The two girls become roommates and have an off-campus apartment.
As the new year is just beginning, Kalyn receives a call from their friend, Fried Shanks, who requires their help once again. Their friend is in danger, and the three of them embark to help him out once again.
