What is my Writing Process

About My Process

I get a lot of questions from time to time about what my writing process is. How long do I write? Where do I come up with my ideas? I wanted to take some time to talk about my process and some ideas I have swimming in my head for the future..

How and Where Do I Come Up with Stuff

I usually am inspired by a variety of places and experiences in my life. The Ferry from The Creator’s Temple is directly inspired by cruises I have been on, modeling the ferry off of a combination of these different ships. Heroed is directly inspired by my life in High School. Many of the things Max did, from sitting alone at lunch to wandering off to the lower levels with his friends are all things I did during my time in school.

As for how long I write, that is a bit of a challenging question. I try and find time here and there to write down ideas. Working a 40 hour a week job can make this difficult, however. I try and set aside 30 minutes to an hour a week to write. Be that a sentence or an entire chapter. But, of course, life can sometimes get in the way, and I have to push back my writing schedule.

How Long did it Take Me to Write These?

That is a loaded question for sure, and one I am asked at least once at every trade show I am at. The Creator’s Temple I began when I was 16, modeling Marty after myself. I wrote the entire book in about three years. And then did nothing for nearly 20 years after that. I picked it back up and rewrote the story a few times. It wasn’t until 2020, when the world shut down and I was diagnosed with Cancer did I realized I wanted to finish what I started. So in 2022, I was finally finished and self-published The Creator’s Temple on Amazon.

I immediately began writing my next book, Heroed. This took me about 2 years, up until this May of 2024 when I published this through Amazon as well.

Future Ideas

I am currently working on the sequel to The Creator’s Temple, Titled The Blade of Destruction. This will take place 2 years after the first book, and Follow Marty as he learns more about the blade he carries around, as well as Diving deeper into his family history.

I have also a few other ideas running around in my head as well. I am currently conceptualizing a Sequal to Heroed that will follow Max as he works to dismantle P.H.I.N. and is being idolized as a hero, and the responsibility and danger that comes along with that.

I am also working on an entirely new idea entitled Unsinkable. This will be a time travel story about a character named Alex who is jettisoned back in time from the 21st century to 1912 and aboard the RMS Titanic. They must find a way back home before the fated sinking of the ship, and possibly save the lives of the 2200 people aboard.

Now these are all just works in progress, and I have no current release date as of now for an of these.

James Cameron’s 1997 epic Titanic is being rereleased in 3-D.

Final Thoughts and Words of Wisdom

To anyone thinking about writing, or wondering if they can do it, I offer this sound advice: Go for it! You never know what you can do until you try. Telling my stories is one of my favorite things to do., and when I see people who have read it and truly enjoyed it, It is one of the greatest feelings I have ever seen.

I will never try and be the next Steven King of J.K. Rowling, but I will continue to tell the stories I enjoy writing, and knowing people are reading them and appreciating what they read is the best thing ever.
